Background
As the financial adviser to Aladdin Oil & Gas Company ASA of Norway, Northstar managed to help restructure over USD 25m in debt, including a USD 17m debt for equity swap of all outstanding bonds and the raising of another USD 5m in fresh equity. This included bringing in a new strategic partner for the Company, the British registered Waterford Finance and Investment Ltd., an investor in oil assets in many parts of the world, including Canada, UK, Iraq and different parts of Africa. Aladdin Oil & Gas Company has several large assets, including significant gas producing assets in the Ukhta area of Russia and oil producing assets in the Orenburg area of Russia. Northstar has also taken a minority stake in the Company and Mark Bond has joined the Board of Directors.

Northstar was able to find an investor in the Company due to its long term experience of sourcing investment for Russia specific companies and its understanding of investor risk profiles.
