Toridoll / Wok to Walk best deal of the year, Capitalmind best M & A advisor in the Netherlands

Capitalmind, Mergers Alliance Partner in the Netherlands, has been awarded Dutch Deal of the Year 2015 for the Toridoll - Wok to Walk deal completed with the assistance of Yamaichi, Mergers Alliance partner in Japan.

The Dutch Corporate Finance Association (DCFA) awarded the majority stake acquisition of Wok to Walk by the Japanese restaurant operator Toridoll as best deal in 2015. The deal was advised by the Mergers Alliance partner Capitalmind, assisted by its Japonese partner Yamaichi. Capitalmind also won the title of best  advisor in 2015 defeating Grant Thornton and Florijnz.

DCFA is a national association for financial professionals, with over 200 individual members. Each year they award the most creative, complex and multidisciplinary successfully completed transaction in the Netherlands. This year the jury decided unanimously on the acquisition of Dutch wok restaurant Wok to Walk by Japanese  group Toridoli, operating over 1000 restaurants and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. 

Wok to Walk is an international restaurant chain with approximately 65 wok restaurants, of which about 50 are franchises. The transaction was complicated by cultural differences including language issues, Yamaichi's participation was essential to overcome these problems. Capitalmind and Yamaichi worked for six months to close the deal. Under the banner of the new owner,  Wok to Walk's plan is to quickly expand internationally, including opening new restaurants in Paris and Rome.

Jury chairman Peter Paul de Vries highlighted the complexity behind the deal: "As an adviser to the Japanese buyer, Capitalmind managed to make initial contact with the owner and execute the deal tactfully, persevering to overcome the major physical and cultural distance between the Dutch restauration businesses headquarter in Amsterdam and the Japanese buyers in Tokyo".

Peter Wild, board member of the DCFA states the winning transaction is a prime example for the professional association, "I am immensely proud that our members submit case studies each year that demonstrate the high quality of their services and mutual cooperation."
