Abaco is a leading European provider of software solutions for the management and control of territorial resources, mainly geared towards precision agriculture and environmental sustainability. Its software packages are based on a proprietary platform and are able to archive and process geospatial data and information with regard to land use from a technical and administrative standpoint with the following application fields:
1. Precision agriculture
2. Monitoring of agricultural supply chains
3. Management of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by governments
4. Management of corporate assets and real estate
Ethica Corporate Finance advised the shareholders of Abaco on the sale of a majority stake to Taste of Italy, an Italian fund specialising in the agri-food sector managed by DeA Capital Alternative Funds SGR.
Ethica started a professional relationship with Abaco’s founder a year and half ago, when the company was starting to receive approaches from international investors. While the entrepreneur felt the need to partner with someone who could help him bring his company to the “next level”, he was concerned about the purely financially driven approach most of the investors he had met had been showing. Ethica supported him in shifting the focus to Italian investors, who would better understand the dynamics of a small but fast growing business, with the know-how and potential to become an international leader, and then together walk “hand in hand” along the path. A focused search in such sense brought to rapidly identifying DEA Capital as the best partner and rapidly close a transaction in only a few months. DEA will now support the company in consolidating its growth path at European level, attracting new managerial resources and structure an M&A strategy both in Italy and abroad.
