Company Background

Established in the early ’50s, EMU Group S.p.A. is a leading manufacturer of metal-made outdoor furniture, with ca. 25% market share in Europe in the street contract niche, thanks to well-known style, quality of products and recognized brands.Since 2011 the company was owned by Italian PE fund Opera Investimenti Italia (managed by Opera SGR).

EMU has a diversified product portfolio, ranging from chairs and armchairs, coffee tables and dining tables to a complete sofa collection, sunshades, and accessories, all made of steel, aluminum, and multi-material.

EMU established itself as an affordable luxury premium brand, with a well-balanced quality/price ratio and a distinguished design content in its products.

Strongly export-oriented business: ca. 65% of revenues (totaling €30 m) are achieved abroad, with a focus on Europe and USA. Distribution covers more than 50 countries all around the world, carried out through a wide network of sales agents and distributors.

Deal Summary

Ethica Corporate Finance advised the shareholders of EMU Group S.p.A., Opera SGR, on the sale of the 100% stake to the entrepreneurial family who established the company more than 40 years ago.

Value Added

This transaction represents the completion of circa two years of cooperation with Private Equity investor Opera SGR.

Ethica was able to identify a panel of potential buyers, resulting from a pre-screening activity with around 60 potential buyers, and structure a competitive auction process which granted the highest net equity proceeds to shareholders.

This is the 5th deal advised for Opera since 2015.
